CABARET RISING: ONE NATION, UNDER GROUND

TBD IMMERSIVE

TBD Immersive is doing some amazing, large-scale immersive theatre in Washington, D.C.

For their second show, Cabaret Rising: One Nation, Underground, I definitely lived up to that immersive spirit. I worked with the production crew to create and run a volunteer house management team. I recruited and trained all the house management volunteers. I even managed them during the show while staying in character as Jennifer Sparrow, badass rebellion soldier with a dark past and a dagger wit.

I also put on my puzzle/game-design hat and wrote "quest lines", video game style personal adventures for the most dedicated audience members to follow. Those who successfully completed the quests got to feel like their actions triggered the show's finale, which was one hella rewarding experience.

Also, I wrote that "One Nation, Underground" tagline during an insomnia-fueled slack brainstorming session.

I helped write and perform the first iterations of their "Deepo's Chatroom" show, which used a Jim Henson Creature Shop Digital Puppet to teach guests about tough topics like climate change, plastic pollution, and sustainable seafood... in between plenty of

Getting to operate one of the coolest pieces of technology I have ever seen and work with a team of brilliant performers to test and revise the script on a daily basis based on the actual reactions of a live audience was by far one of the most thrilling experiences I've had so far in my career.

ScienceAF, or Science Art Fusion for those who prefer a fancier title,  is the creative science communication company I founded

Through it, I plan cool science events, like Solve for X, the science-themed variety show featuring professional performers doing acts inspired by actual scientific papers.

I also provide professional creative and performing arts training to the science community.

I've already created some workshops on how to bring narrative, game design, and marketing practices into your outreach. I'm working on an online class and downloadable guides that will help science communicators draw experience from the worlds of performing arts, creative writing, and professional comedy.
